There's an audible sigh as Duke's hand appears in frame, trying to untangle him.] Don't worry, I'll get him home safe. With any luck, he'll be awake in a week or two. I hope.

Mason? Whatever you're thinking, don't.

Man, that's fuckin' cute.

[Then he adds in a hurry:]

Don't tell him I said that. He'll probably figure I'm making fun.

[And he isn't making fun. He just thinks sleeping raccoon is fucking cute, goddammit.]

[Of course, Duke never said that, just like Lloyd never made a remark. He's more focused on getting him away from the rack and ready to go home. (Srs warden is srs.)]

You know, I've been thinking. You said something real nice to me about a month ago, and I never said thanks.

Good. Sounds like you're doing better than most people right now.

It's because of the port. It gave me a new perspective on myself.

When I was in the infirmary, you said there were lots of amazing people in the world and that I was one of them. That meant a lot to me.

[She grins, because he kind of just said it again (or he confirmed what he'd said before, anyway), and that's awesome.]

A perspective I really like! I was strong and brave and I made good choices. I was cautious and thoughtful.

And you came out okay! You did good.

I did real good-- and I ain't just saying that; it's something I have been told. And lots of good came from it, too. I'm happy, I'm more confident, I'm getting laid, I made people proud of me... my life is better now than it has been in a long time.

[Too bad it's about to all go to shit.]

You know you'd still have done good even if no one told you, right? Because it's definitely true.

Yeah, I know. And I'd be proud of myself if no one had told me, too. But I still like hearing it; that's okay, right?

More than okay. That's only human.

Dr. Cambridge said I need to value myself because of myself, and not because of other people. But... I really like it when people say nice things about me.

What about you? Do you value yourself because of how you feel inside, or because of what other people say?

Of course. Hearing something nice about yourself is like bonus happy points.

Me? [Duke laughs. Virtually no one in Haven says anything nice about him, no matter what he does.] I have always exceeded expectations.

Does that mean you get it from yourself?

Yes. Because I'm amazing.
