[Allison pauses long enough to quiet Brownie's whining ans fussing at her side by gently taking Duchess out of her purse and setting her on the floor, where Brownie cheerfully and carefully picks her up by her scruff and carries her across the room to settle in for some 'mothering.' Turning back to Duke, she takes a deep breath...
